It’s been our observation servicing cyclocross bikes that nearly EVERYONE puts their bike away dirty after the season has ended.  It’s understandable:  It’s been a long season, the holiday season is upon us, projects ignored during cyclocross season are calling or it’s time to relax.

Then the your cyclocross bike comes out in late summer and BAM you are presented with:
1. A seized bottom bracket
2. Headset bearings that feel like a pepper grinder when turning the bars
3. A very crabby freehub body
4. Shift cables glued to the housing
5. Brake pads that are dangerously thin
6. Handlebar tape that smell like a high school boys locker room

The top five maintenance-specific items you could do to put your cross bike away happy include:

1. Remove, re-grease, and/or replace headset and bottom bracket bearings
2. Remove, re-grease, and/or replace hub bearings

4. Install fresh brake pads
5. De-grease and re-lube chain
